Addressing Low-Voltage Power Needs in EVs and Hybrids
FORVIA HELLA has launched its first fully integrated 12-volt lithium-ion battery pack, aimed at the growing demand for a reliable, intelligent low-voltage power supply in electric and hybrid vehicles. By integrating lithium-ion cells with the battery management system in a single subsystem, the pack reduces both weight and system complexity while increasing the safety and reliability of a vehicle's energy supply.
Series Orders Already Secured
FORVIA HELLA has received series orders for the battery pack in the low- to mid-three-digit million-euro range from multiple international automotive manufacturers, with series production due to begin in China in the summer of 2027. "Launching our 12-volt battery pack not only expands our product portfolio for electromobility. Above all, it also reflects our clear strategic direction," said Sebastian Keils, head of the global product center for energy management in FORVIA HELLA's electronics business group.
Engineering Details and Redundant Power up to ASIL D
The battery pack uses multidimensional algorithms that precisely measure current, voltage, temperature, and other parameters to determine both state of charge and state of health accurately, and is approximately 20 percent lighter than a conventional lead-acid battery. Paired with FORVIA HELLA's high-voltage DC-DC converter, the pack enables a redundant power supply for safety-relevant functions up to ASIL D, taking over if the high-voltage network fails.
