BorgWarner Secures Four New EV Motor Projects with Major Chinese Automakers
BorgWarner has announced a significant expansion of its electric motor business in China, landing four new projects with three major domestic automakers. These developments strengthen the company’s role in supporting China's rapidly growing new energy vehicle (NEV) market.
The first project involves supplying 400V high-voltage hairpin (HVH) motors for a 200kW hybrid rear-drive platform. Production is set to begin in August 2025.
Another contract includes providing motors for a top Chinese OEM’s 150kW pure electric platform, with mass production scheduled for March 2026. Additionally, BorgWarner will supply e-motors for a third OEM’s upcoming range-extended and plug-in hybrid models, launching in August and October 2025.
Innovative S-HVH Motor Technology
“We are pleased to extend our success in China with several new electric motor business wins,” said Dr. Stefan Demmerle, President of BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems. “Our focus remains on advancing our manufacturing and product innovations for NEV customers.”
The company’s new Ultra-Short High-Voltage Hairpin (S-HVH) motor technology features a compact design with shorter end turns—over 5mm shorter than traditional HVH motors. This innovation helps reduce copper usage, lower axial volume, and improve power density and efficiency.
Importantly, this technology is fully compatible with existing manufacturing lines, making it easier for OEMs to adopt while ensuring scalability across both 400V and 800V platforms.
